All Looks, No Proof.
Your portfolio shows what you drew. Your tech receipt proves what you built it with.
We all paid that ransom, $40/mo, to showcase a brochure with pretty images to prove our design prowess. Says nothing about how you got it built, much less if you knew anything technical. 2026, I killed my Wix brochure. Built a platform to prove my receipts instead. WTF are receipts? Proof that Axoworks not only designs, but we got the scars to prove it.

For 30 years our proof was a portfolio. Nice photos. Pretty drawings. Nobody ever looks at a portfolio and asks the dangerous question: how was that made? How much? Does it function?
That is a mechanic's bill with no part in the line item. Just labor, labor, labor, and a trust me buddy!
Savvy clients stopped believing that a while ago. Now machines are reading it too, and machines do not fall for a photograph. They read your website, check for receipts, and form an opinion about your firm while you are asleep. Your reputation comes in zilch if it is all looks, no proof. A portfolio does not survive that. The technology right now is the receipt. The buildings are the work.
Receipts, Including the Ugly One
Here is the actual ledger. The numbers are old ones, already published, and I am not dressing them up.
| What we ran | What it actually cost or scored |
|---|---|
| The old Wix brochure | $40/month, for a static page nobody read |
| Surviving the Hacker News front page, 30 days | $0.74 total. 17,401 pageviews, 5,084 unique visitors, 631 MB of bandwidth |
| First gate we ran on the agent, before it was live | 7.1/10. Good enough to build? No. |
| Where other teams end the story | They do not publish the second score |
| Our second score | 6.8/10 — we broke it ourselves, and it went down |
| Third score, after the fixes shipped | 8.7/10, all seven defects fixed and verified live |
6.8 … yeah, embarrassing. That is the point. 6.8 is the one that proves the 8.7 means something. If you never publish the middle number, you are not showing receipts. You are showing a travel brochure with a table that promises a 10/10 vacation experience.
If you are still partying on the 1999 internet, look around. A roller coaster is heading your way. Perplexity, Google, ChatGPT or Gemini — these machines are in charge now. And guess what? They only read braille, they can’t see your pretty pictures for squat. They make recommendations based on what they can read, not what they can see. And they are forming opinions about your business.
Where the Proof Lives
Does the tech have anything to do with the architecture? Ask that the other way around.
Design is the easy part. Making it slide like butter — that is what the tools do.
The $1 Property Report gives you the legwork of a PM and 2 interns from a professional office. It reads GIS and municipal code and hands you setbacks, lot coverage and what you can actually build — before you sign a design retainer. No retainer paycheck to the designer. No lock-in.
The Concierge is the front-desk sales-associate answering your client’s zoning question at 2 a.m., any place, any language. You are not paying a 9-5 receptionist.
revit-tools talks to the Revit BIM model and answers — floor area, lot coverage, setbacks, window-to-wall ratio — while the architect keeps authoring in AutoCAD.
The buildings: Manson, Kingston, Bremerton, Federal Way, Tacoma, Bainbridge Island, Mukilteo. One in Singapore. All out of this workspace.
Small firm, no corner glass offices. We do not need them. You are not paying for deadweight and headcounts. Tiny is Mighty. We open-source the receipts on the GitHub. Go check.
What a Receipt Actually Is
AEC Proof of Work (n.) — the published, machine-readable record that a firm built the tool that produced its own deliverables. Coined by AxoWorks, September 2026. Full framework in the long version of this argument.
Four things count. Here is where ours are.
- The code, in public. Ours is at github.com/Axotopia.
- Test logs, with dates. Ours are not up yet.
- The failures, named. Ours are published in full.
- The fixes, verified after shipping. Seven of them, scored 8.7 live.
Three out of four. The log repository is empty and I am not going to pretend otherwise — go look at it.
That gap is why this is not a pitch. Anyone can show you the three that worked. The receipt-keeping is that we can tell you exactly which one we are missing. Receipts are not what you own. They are what you are willing to show.
A page that says “award-winning” is meaningless to the machines that judge you. You get no points for trying.
Why the Machines Care
Here’s the studies. Search did not die. It stopped showing up.
360 of every 1,000 US Google searches ended in a click in 2024 (SparkToro/Datos); by early 2026, 68% ended with no click at all. The Aggarwal et al. GEO paper (KDD 2024) measured what actually lifts a firm inside a generated answer: statistics +115.1%, cite-sources +77.0%.
The receipt is the current growth strategy. Don’t have to believe me. Do the research and check your web stats. Here’s how you measure. Installed, not ranked. Called, not clicked.
The Final Word
Publishing your receipts costs you nothing but your pride. That is the whole bill. Your pride is the only line item on it.
So: does your portfolio show the work, or does somebody actually have proof you can build?
